Award Title:  Colorado Adam Walsh Implementation 2014

Award Description:

The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 (AWA) (Pub. L. 109-248, 42 U.S.C. § 16901, et seq) authorizes the Office of Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering, and Tracking (SMART) to administer sex offender management grants. These grants assist states, the District of Columbia, U.S. principal territories and tribal jurisdictions in developing and/or enhancing sex offender registration and notification programs that support substantial implementation of Title I of the AWA, known as the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). SORNA was enacted to protect the public from convicted sex offenders and offenders against children by establishing a comprehensive national system for the registration of those offenders. The Colorado Division of Criminal Justice is seeking grant funds to enhance Colorado's jurisdiction-wide SORNA implementation program and functions. With the allocated funds, the Colorado Division of Criminal Justice will enhance SOTAR to improve data sharing and provide statewide training to law enforcement agencies across the State of Colorado. The Division of Criminal Justice will complete their goals by 1) modifying the SOTAR application so that it is incompliance with the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS); 2) providing additional SORNA-related enhancements; and hiring a contractor to provide training to law enforcement regarding recent updates to the State registry/website as well as SORNA related information. ca/ncf
